Singles make up majority of tax filers

Thanks to demographics, singles file the most federal tax returns. Single people (heads of household, widows, or divorced), account for majority of federal tax filers. People wait longer to get married, live together, divorce goes up and there are more single parents. Unmarried Americans over eighteen years old count for 44% percent of Americans. Though there are more single tax filers, married couples still pay more.
